What is being fought for in the southeast of Ukraine?
Petro Poroshenko, a President of Ukraine, is heading to soon become a similarly untrustworthy politician and 'clown' such as Mikhail Saakashvili. This former Georgian authoritarian president, before that the Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, experienced a perfect political boomerang. Nine years of violent “Americanization" of Georgia sent him to where he had come from - the USA. While in 2003, he was entering the political scene as a promising and popular leader of the young and middle generation of Georgians, he was leaving the scene as a poor man beaten and a dictator who could no longer continue to live in Georgia. At the end of 2013, he had better left his country in order to avoid prosecution for abuse of power and the use of force against citizens. Thus his actions were classified by the Georgian Prosecutor's Office against mass demonstrations against his government, corruption and poverty which accompanied the end of 2007. Mr. Saakashvili then brutally suppressed demonstrations, he declared a state of emergency for several days and an early presidential election, and he gave up his office so that on January 5, 2008, he won the presidential election again. His victory was not recognized by the opposition, which criticized his “anti-national" policy of arrogance, took its revenge and beat him in the election in October 2012. In the meantime, with the support of the U.S. and the EU, he managed to declare the war against “terrorists and separatists" in Abkhazia and South Ossetia in order to try forcibly integrate these, “independent republics "into the Republic of Georgia. However, he failed in the war and had to withdraw his army back from South Ossetia, when the Russian army consequently responded to his attacks. Russia subsequently recognized the independence of both republics and included them economically and military into their zone.
Mikheil Saakashvili lost the war because he listened more the U.S. advisers and White House than his own nation. He thought Georgia would have been transferred into a “new island of freedom and democracy of an American-style" in the Northern Caucasus, which would have been protected by NATO and subsidized by the European Union. In the interests of American business, rearmament and building a strong army, he almost dried the state budget and he significantly dipped his citizens into debt. Economic cooperation with Russia was nearly destroyed and he created new masses of poor and needy people. Plus 150 thousand Georgian refugees who had left South Ossetia.
A similar scenario took place in February 2014 in Ukraine and Petro Poroshenko has been acting in a very similar way. In the southeast of the country he is leading a war against citizens and ethnic Russians, who refused to recognize the coup. Instead of leading political talks on peace, federalization law, early parliamentary elections, return of refugees and humanitarian aid, he supports partial mobilization, honours soldiers and he shows off wearing the new fatigues. If he wanted, this senseless war that kills innocent civilians and children could have stopped a long time ago. Just a single order and just a gesture. And not so-called peace plan with the ultimate conditions, which gave him the green light for further military operations in late June. And again, they only ruin the state budget and the rest of the economy of Ukraine.
Unlike Mikhail Saakashvili, Petro Poroshenko does not copy George Bush junior, which has already been buried by history, he does not chew his tie when feeling nervous. He had better “heroically” bangs on the table and rhetorically reminds of Himmler and Mussolini. He also wants to defeat and destroy all terrorists, bandits and separatists. But how? Cities, towns and villages in Donetsk and Luhansk, where majority of ethnic Russians live, are initially shot off. Then, he gradually destroys water reservoirs and energy infrastructure to eventually mortar and tank shelling bombing of residential areas, bus stations, hospitals and shopping centers. In this way, he forces the civilian population to run away either to Russia or to the western regions of Ukraine. And he makes it even more complicated for refugees as the Army or National Guard shoots them when they are approaching to the Russian border ... This is the way, how the army will occupy “liberated territories". At that moment, however, let´s not forget to mention that, terrorists and separatists "had successfully got through and out of the “encirclement” so that there were no more “reasons” for killing journalists and other civilians. Poroshenko´s news broadcaster- Kanal 5, however, does not broadcast such news and replaces them by claims that Russian terrorists are responsible for the attack against civilians.. In other words, according to the Kiev propaganda, which we are supposed to believe, the infrastructure in the southeast is protected by the Ukrainian army and its commander (president), but terrorists and separatists do harm in the area. But who will believe this propaganda? Do really Ukrainian soldiers and Russian militia play the game of who will destroy more houses and blocks of flats and who will expel more civilians from their homes? I am not surprised at all be that the Ukrainian citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, after all this, they do not want to be citizens of Ukraine, but of Donetsk and Luhansk national republic, respectively of the Russian Federation. Ethnic Russians, who are fighting against “the aggressor”, have made it clear for a few times that they will not give out their native lands.
Petro Poroshenko mishandled both demagogy and “evidence” about the shooting down of a Malaysian Boeing on July 17, 2014 in Donetsk region. He immediately declared that it had been shot down by Russian separatists, but he failed to submit any evidence about it. Even he is unable to provide an independent investigation or a ceasefire within 50 miles of the location plane crash so that the international investigators and staff of the OSCE could move there safely. Although he passed the order, the army does not respect him at all.
I am very curious how the crimes of this war will be investigated and who will bear the main responsibility. Who and when will indemnify citizens and refugees, relatives who lost their relatives in the war? When and who will pay economic damage, salaries, pensions, who will indemnify business? It is already more than certain that enmity and hostility amongst Ukrainians and Russians will mark at least one, if not two generations. Like the patriotic and civil war marked Croats and Serbs.
It seems that the current Kievan power that remains directed by the U.S. and EU citizens without a mandate of its citizens, is losing breath and strength. It has been spending taxpayers' money very quickly. And those lent, which had originally been supposed to be used for “rehabilitation" of the grand plan of the national revolution" - the secession of the Ukrainian economy from Russia and the CIS. It has taken the German media almost 6 months to find the courage to finally ask publicly how the financial aid from the USA and the EU in Ukraine is being used. And how is it possible that the money is used to finance the war against citizens?
Petro Poroshenko has already disappointed those who voted for him. Especially mothers and wives of young and older men who had to recruit in the battle lines started to hate him. First for 10 days, then longer. Some of them deserted, others returned in coffins, injured or mentally disabled. Others are hiding in Russia. There are many of those who refused to recruit and ignored the entire mobilization. Therefore, the mobilization has still remained partial ... And what is the worst for President Poroshenko in this matter, he is unable to explain to the citizens clearly why there is a war in the south-east of Ukraine and what is being fought for. If he was honest guy, he would admit that his army and foreign troops are fighting primarily for the interests of the U.S. and the EU against Russia and not in the interests of Ukraine. It certainly cannot be national and state interests of Ukraine wanting to integrate divided and broken Ukraine into the EU and NATO military intervention and the Russian Federation. Neither can a war-divided country. It can be neither the Association Agreement with the EU, which was quickly signed by President Poroshenko on June 27, 2014, when he already commanded military operations in Ukraine. It cannot be also because its content formally signed by temporary and illegitimate Ukrainian government. We should never forget it. This agreement without thorough debate should not to be ratified by the end of September, the Slovak Parliament either although it is Mr. Lajčák´s, a Minister of Foreign Affairs, wish. Even, for example, we do not know at all if this proposal is identical with the proposal the former president Yanukovych refused to sign in Vilnius and what will be the impact on the Slovak economy.
